Welcome to the TTG CE3 Wiki

Welcome! Here you will find all of the information necessary to get up and running with The Turning Gate's CE3 series of plugins for Lightroom, and lots of additional information besides. If you're looking for documentation for our older CE2 series of plugins, look to the CE2 version wiki.

Be sure to read the Installation instructions! They are very specific and super important. Beyond that, hit the Foundations and The Core Elements 3 (CE3) Framework sections for a lot of really great How-to information to get you going with TTG. Further on, there's thorough documentation for each CE3 plugin – not the first thing I'd read, but definitely the place to get into the nitty-gritty of the plugins' features.

Getting Started

So, you want to build a website! And you want to build it with Lightroom! Hurrah!!

The Turning Gate enables you to do just that, but there is more to using the plugins than just using the plugins. To publish and maintain a website you need a domain and hosting, an understanding of FTP, and some basic familiarity with Lightroom and its Web module. And to make the most of your image galleries, you should endeavor toward search engine optimization, file name conventions, social media integration and more.

To wit, you have to learn to crawl before you can walk, and you have to walk before you can run. Sometime after that, you might learn to fly. In the pages which follow, we tackle some of these basic concepts.

Web Module 101

The Turning Gate’s various web engines offer a wealth of features, but — as plugins — also piggyback on Lightroom’s internal functionality. Before we begin designing our image galleries or pages, it is important to understand how to use the Web module in a more general sense.

File Management

File management not only impacts your Library, but also plays an important role in taking your images to the Web. File naming, metadata and organization can impact your website as much as it can your Library.

Going Online

The Web is an unusual place, full of wonder and mystery, and no small amount of competition. These are the basics for survival in the harsh, online wilderness.

  1. Troubleshooting

Where Photography and the Web collide, there you will find The Turning Gate. Here we explain the Why and the How of what we do.

  1. The Tenants of Our Design Philosophy :

The Core Elements 3 (CE3) Framework

Core Elements 3 is a component system. Galleries may be used standalone or to supplement your existing website, or combined with other CE3 components to create a complete website, an e-commerce system for selling photo prints online, or to facilitate image proofing with clients. The CE3 system is powerful, flexible and extensible like nothing else available for Lightroom, or anything else for that matter. And yet we've made it as easy to use as we possibly can; so easy that anyone can setup their own website with nothing more than time, tinkering and the information contained in this documentation. All you need to do is determine the pieces you need to attain your vision of what your website should be.

Basic Framework Concepts

Advanced Framework Concepts

Take things further with advanced features for experienced users, and those who don't mind getting their hands dirty with a little bit of code. If we're scaring you, then don't worry; all of this is totally optional.

Themed Templates

Use our prefab designs to fast-track your website, or to allow you to begin from a slightly different perspective. You may find them to your liking as they are, or they may inspire you to pursue a design direction you hadn't previously considered.

The client response gallery facilitates communication between the photographer and client. Clients browsing the gallery make image selections and leave feedback; the photographer receives the selects and feedback via email, in a format that allows images to be easily isolated in Lightroom for processing. Our client response gallery has been used and praised by professional photographers for years, and CE3 is the best version yet.
